 Welcome to ABSOLUTE Yoga

Dear Ones,

It is with a profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Mark Sandler, who founded ABSOLUTE Yoga & Wellness in 1977. The studios will be closed until April 8th as his family mourns his loss.

As we mourn Mark, let us remember: He was always on the cusp of change. As one of the first teachers of Yoga in Rochester, he was a founding member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists, and served as secretary to the Yoga Alliance Board of Directors. As his partner of 20+ years, I can tell you that he is the most sincere yogi I have ever known.

Here are a few words from our teachers regarding Mark:

♥ Victor van Kooten said “I always recognized a great connection that he had with Paramhansa Yogananda”

♥ Kali Ray “Jai Mark ~ a great service he performed on Earth in the name of Y O G A”.

♥ Leslie Kaminoff – “I was looking at some photographs of our visits together just the other day as well, and fondly remembering the times we shared.”
“I'm sorry I won't be able to attend the memorial, as I will be teaching in Toronto that day, but I assure you my thoughts will be with you. I will, in fact, lead everyone at the Toronto Conference in a special chant in Mark's honor.”

♥ Gitte Beschgaard : ”Unfortunately, I am scheduled to fly to London, England for teaching the next 2 weeks so I won't be able to be there (at least in physical form) or in leading any mantras. I so wish that I could change this but there is no way. I will do mantras on Mark's behalf."

♥ Francois Raoult: “I always valued his humility, simplicity and also courage to dive in teaching full time as dharma. Very few people can let go of a comfortable lifestyle and stable job to embrace the art of yoga. I cannot be in person at the memorial but will chant the Gayatri mantra for Mark."

♥ Roop Verma: “To us, he represented the most sincere practitioner and a humble traveler on the path of Yoga. Our encounters during his visits to the ashram were loving and most sublime. I saw the ‘light’ of love, dedication, selflessness and brightness in him as his core essence. Certainly, many lives were touched by his vital and centered ’presence’ and which they will always remember”.

To us, he was Mark, honey, dad, daddy, the gentle one, the dependable friend, the good neighbor, the one who faithfully mowed the lawn, did most of the grocery shopping, and supported us all in so many ways. We are already at a loss for how to go on without him.

Mark is predeceased by brother Gary Sandler; survived by wife Carrie Gaynor; children Ian Thomas and Ella Sandler; parents Ruth and Paul Sandler; sister Lori (Patrick Canada); sister-in-law Gail Sandler; nephews and niece Matthew Canada, Daniel Sandler, and Naomi Sandler.
